On the morning of February 15th, the provincial and municipal forestry joint inspection team visited the company's Shangyang oil tea base to inspect the growth of afforestation last year and the progress of new afforestation this year.
The joint inspection team was led by Deputy Director Ai Qing of the Seed and Seedling Bureau of the Provincial Forestry Department, and members of the inspection team including Deputy Director Tao Lizhen and Director Tu Jianguo of the Municipal Forestry Bureau participated in the inspection. The person in charge of the Forestry Bureau of Xinjian District and the Forest Management Station of Jinqiao Township accompanied the inspection. The person in charge of the base reported on the construction of Shangyang Oil Tea Base. The Green Source Oil Tea Cooperative plans to create 2000 acres of oil tea forest in Shangyang Base, which will be developed in two years. 800 acres have been planted in 2016, and 1200 acres have been arranged for afforestation in 2017. Currently, 900 acres have been planted. Director Ai walked and watched, occasionally squatting down to observe the growth of oil tea seedlings. When he heard that the cooperative was developing oil tea forests in cooperation with farmers, the farmers only needed to provide barren land, and the rest was done by the cooperative until the oil tea was harvested. He appreciated the practice of sharing profits with farmers in a certain proportion and said that this cooperative model based on farmers' interests was worth promoting. Director Ai also requested that the afforestation of Camellia oleifera should first ensure the source of Camellia oleifera seedlings. Camellia oleifera seedlings should be purchased from designated nurseries in the province, and direct seedlings should be removed during planting. Weak seedlings should be stored in separate seedbeds for future transplanting. Director Ai also requested that the management and protection of Camellia oleifera be done well, striving to create a forest and benefit both enterprises and farmers.
